Are HR Directors Aware of the Barriers to Womens Progression in the Workplace?

This survey sponsored by a recruitment firm suggests that equality is being achieved by asking HR Directors if they feel there is equal opportunity to men and women. Its rather like asking a cardiac surgeon if they (mostly’he’s too!) thinks that he does a good job at fixing hearts? I think what is far more telling is less than half of the respondents have any activities in place to support gender equality.

The research also reveals that initiatives specifically designed to support women’s advancement in the workplace are low on the agenda for a majority of UK companies. Only 41 per cent of HR directors saying they have or plan to introduce programmes specifically tailored for women including 13% having mentoring schemes in place.
