What mums choose

A piece of research from the US has highlighted the difficulty both working mums and stay-at-home mums have dealing with guilt. Much of the guilt is around how other mums judge them whether it be their messy house or that they dont spend enough time with their children.

Perhaps the grass isn’t greener on the other side.  Shouldn’t we tackle our guilt head on and start talking openly with other parents to gain support about the decisions we make?

Its also interesting that mums don’t rate paid maternity leave highly but would prefer employers to support them in working flexibly particularly when there is a family crisis like when their children are sick. 3/4 of mums equate a career to working full time but 60% want to work part time. Both groups of mums felt that they didnt have time to take of themselves.

Many leading organisations know if they put things like emergency childcare in place or subsiding gym membership/treatments. These are considered a major attractions for developing engaged talent.
